"DEPARTURE OF THE SECOND COMPANY . . .On Thursday, the 11th instant, the steamship Nevada, Captain Price, sailed from this port for New York, with the second company of this season's emigrating Saints, numbering 243 souls, all of whom (excepting eight or ten persons who expected to obtain at New York the necessary means to enable them to continue their journey Zionward,) were booked through to Utah. This company was composed of Saints of various nationalities, 91 having come from the Swiss and German Mission, 10 from the Holland Mission, 11 from Iceland; in the Scandinavian Mission, and the remainder from various conferences in England. The number of returning missionaries with this company was unusually large. Elder Joseph Birch, who was appointed to take charge, (with Elders John Huber and J. F. Wells as his assistants,) arrived in this country, on a mission, April 2, 1873, since which time he has labored chiefly in the Manchester Conference. Elder Henry Leigh was appointed, immediately after his arrival in this country, May 26, 1873, to the Liverpool Conference, and returns home on account of ill-health. Elder John Quayle has, since he came to England in November last, labored exclusively on the Isle of Man, and returns home also in consequence of failing health. Elder Junius F. Wells, who now returns home, came on a mission to England May 21, 1872, and has labored (with the exception of two or three months he spent on the continent,) in the London and Nottingham Conferences. Elders John Huber and Henry Riser also returned home with this company, having been laboring -- the former three years and the latter two years -- in the Swiss and German Mission. Elder S. Van Dyk has labored in Holland about two years and five months, with but only indifferent health. Elder J. C. Naile has labored chiefly among his kindred in Bavaria since his arrival in Europe eleven months ago. Elders Loftur Johnson and Magnus Biarnason have labored, since their arrival, May 26, 1873, in Iceland, which is a part of the Scandinavian Mission."
