. . . 5 [May] When we did arrive [in Liverpool] we find everything in the utmost confusion for the berths were not made for more than half of us. The poor children were worn out by the fatigue of the railway journey and crying in every direction and there was no place for to lay them down. In short, everything is in the utmost confusion. At last we laid down in our clothes in one of the places made.
6 [May] Passengers not yet settled. Brother [John] Hardy, Brother [Lester J.] Herrick, and others are doing what they can to find out the places for them to sleep in and we are at last settled. Before dinner we are all called upon deck for to pass the doctor when after about an hour waiting he makes his appearance and then all we had to do was to show tickets and go down below. Again, I did not see of what use the doctor was. [p. 12b] About 2 o'clock the Nevada gets underway and when we go on deck about 3 o'clock, it is just in time to see the last of old England. We have a pleasant passage across the channel and are all pretty well.
7. Finds all pretty well. We sight land about half past 2 o'clock and put in at Queenstown to receive passengers, ship stops about half an hour. Was [- - ] by some Irish people who [-] off to us to sell oranges, &c. in a boat. The people having to pull their oranges up in the basket from the boat. We [- - - - - - -] of the day. 11. Continues with a westerly gale. [p. 13a] Hatches [UNCLEAR, POSSIBLY fastened] down and no one allowed on deck.
12. Weather very bad and shipping heavy seas.

15. Crossing the banks of Newfoundland, passed a large iceberg. Rain and thick weather.
16. Moderate weather and very cold.
17. Fine weather and [-] wind. Passed several ships.
18. Saints getting better of their sickness.
19. Thick weather. Pilot boarded.
20. Very fine. Looking out for [-] first land. Made our [- - -] anchor 12 o'clock in New York River, 3,315 miles from London. [p. 13b]
21. Got underway and steamed up the river and left the ship for Castle Gardens and stayed there during the night.

25. Going through the plains of Illinois.
26. Beautiful country, scenery, and arrive at Omaha, 1,096 miles from New York.
27. Passed several Indians on the plains of Nebraska.

30. Commences very wet. Snow still on the mountains. Very lovely and grand scenery. Pass the 1,000 miles tree and the Devil's [-]. Weather cleared up. Seen the first of Zion's Cooperative Mercantile Institution on our road. Passed over the Devil's Gate. Beautiful scenery. Arrive at Ogden and are met by my grandmother Tucker from Kaysville.
