Oct. 17, 1879. Bid goodbye to cousin Isabella and cousin Robert Shaw Jr. and others. in Visited Aunt Ann and Uncle Robert Shaw and with many kind remembrances bid them goodbye. With kind remembrances, love and affection, and with many blessings on me and the dear ones in Zion, I bid adieu to old Watlington and all the kindred that dwell there.
At Liverpool I found President [William] Budge and many of the elders, also a great many Saints who are going to sail on the ship Arizona on the morrow for Zion. Arranged for my passage from Liverpool to New York by giving my note to President Budge for 5 pounds. [p. 1]
