AmericaNew York, July 7, 1874.President Joseph F. Smith.
Dear Brother, - We are very much pleased and thankful to inform you that our company reached New York yesterday morning early, in good health.
The passage was all that could be desired, with the exception of one night's "fresh gale," which caused a little consternation among some. The weather was cool and breezy all the way, which was most fortunate for the good health and comfort of many. Captain Forsyth and the doctor said that they had never seen so healthy a lot of passengers brought to New York; neither had they seen so clean a lot.
The captain paid us much courtesy and attention, and indeed all the officers did likewise.
The passengers are now on the river steamer, wending their way to the railroad cars, all counted and ticketed.
Please excuse these very few lines, for we have had no time to do anything but look after the passengers, and now the railroad officials say we must be off. We shall write to you on our arrival home.
With united love and best wishes to yourself and the brethren, we remain yours in the Gospel,
P.C. Carstenson,John Clark,George F. Gibbs.
