S.S. Wyoming, off Queenstown, Sunday morning, Oct. 20, 1878President William Budge,
Dear Brother,--We arrived here at 9 a.m. There is a stiff breeze from the south-west. About one half the company are sick; the other part are feeling well, and inclined to laugh at the unfortunate condition of their neighbors.
After leaving the river, the further organization of the company was effected by the appointment of Elder D. [Dana] Milne as chaplain, and Elder William Ashworth, captain of the guard. The latter had no desire this morning for his breakfast. Brother [Thomas] Barratt is in like condition. All the other elders are able to take their rations with regularity and dispatch.
We are not much of weather prophets, but, so far as indications point, a rather rough passage is before us.
All send love and best wishes. God bless you, and all your co-laborers in the vineyard of the Lord.
Your brethren in the gospel of peace,
A. [Aurelius] Miner, president of company,George Barber, counselorThomas Barratt, counselorD. [Daniel] S. MacFarlane, clerk. [p.669]
