. . . Presided and preached the gospel until the year 1861, March 3, which date I set sail for America in the ship Olympus. Arrived at New Orleans April 27, after a voyage of about 7 weeks. Arrived in St. Louis in May, lived there a few days, went from there to [-] County, Illinois, where I stayed two years. Sent for my father and mother, earned an outfit and in April, 1853, started for the valley of the Great Salt Lake. Wended our way to Council Bluffs, traveled from there to Salt Lake City in Captain Moses Clawson's company. Arrived at our mountain here home September 17, 1853. . . . [p.1]
