Church Transportation Agent. Incoming Correspondence, 1885-1923. (CR 256 1 Bx 3 fd 16) Presiding Bishop’s Office. January 9, 1909. President Joseph F. Smith and Counselors, Dear Brethren: The company of emigrants leaving Liverpool December 17th, 1908 on the steamship Haverford, from Portland, Maine, in charge of Elder Miles Slater, arrived in Salt Lake City, January 4th, 1909. The company consisted of 7 elders and 9 saints. Had a very rough voyage across the ocean, but the steamer was a very fine one and there was not much sickness among the company. Had Sunday meeting which was well attended as also the evening prayer meeting. Company had good treatment from stewards and steamer officers. All passed the emigration officers without any trouble. Arrived at Portland, December 29th, 1908. From Portland to Salt Lake, good cars provided and good attention from railroad officials. All had friends to meet them. Mr. Westerdahl arranged at Omaha those going to points other than Salt Lake, could be accommodated, and also have their baggage. Respectfully submitted, [CW Nibley, OP Miller, David A Smith].
