Liverpool to Unknown 22 Apr 1893
British Mission Manuscript History Voyage Entry
“Saturday, April 22. The ship ‘Alaska’ sailed from Liverpool with 55 Saints on board, bound for Utah. The company consisted of 48 emigrating Saints (35 from Great Britain and 13 from Scandinavia) and 7 returning Elders, namely, Henry A. Woodruff, Carl G. Anderson, Joseph S. Lindsay, James Kirkham, James McMahon, David Wilcken and Nephi J. Hansen. (Orig. Doc.)” [BMMH, 1893]. “The return voyage from Liverpool was made on the Guion steamship Alaska, which sailed from the English shores on April 22. There were on board, besides Elder Wilcken, the following return missionaries: Nephi J. Hansen, of Sugar House, Salt Lake county, James Kirkham, Lehi, Utah county, Joseph S. Lindsay, Taylorsville, Salt Lake county, James McMahon, Fillmore, Fillmore, Millard county, Henry A. Woodruff, Ashley, Uintah county, and C. Anderson, Salt Lake City. Some of the party, including Elder Wilcken stopped over to view the World’s Fair, and the general verdict is that if the exposition is fully prepared for visitors by July 1, it will show good work on the part of those arranging the exhibits, all of which have not yet been received” [DN, 46:675].
