Steamship Minnesota, off Queenstown, August 26, 1869
Dear Brother,--I take pleasure in reporting to you that all goes well up to the present.
After you left us we held meeting with the Saints, organized the company into six wards, and appointed a captain of each, also a sergeant of the guard, and after seeing all comfortable berthed for the night, we also retired and slept well.
Today we ride smoothly over a calm sea, which adds much to the comfort of all, as sea-sickness is not yet introduced. The officers are all kind and pleasant as when you left. As the tender is now off, I must close.
Yours, &c.,
