My father, mother, sister, and three brothers, two of my mother's brothers, Thomas and Joseph Wright, sailed from Liverpool, England on the steamship Colorado Thursday, July 14, 1868. We were thirteen days on the water. There were 411 Saints, with William B. Preston in charge of the company. One man died on the ship and was buried in the ocean. He was wrapped in a blanket and tied to a plank, then weights were attached to [p.1] ensure the body sinking. There were 1,400 on board the ship. We landed in New York July 28, 1868. We went from there to Benton, Wyoming on the railway some of the time riding in box and open cars. The remainder of the journey by ox team with Daniel McArthur as captain of the company. . . . [p.2]
