S. S. Wyoming, Aug. 26, 1890.President George Teasdale.
Dear Brother,--The longer I sail with this boat the more I like it, and can truly recommend the Wyoming to our emigrants that may come hereafter. When everything is taken in consideration, even if it be the oldest one of the Guion Line on the Atlantic, and although considered to be not very fast, we are well pleased with it.
We have had a fine journey, the weather has been so pleasant that we have been able to be on deck every day from morning until night. A few of our number have been a little seasick. We have been well treated by all hands in every respect, and good feelings and general satisfaction have prevailed among our company. I hope and trust that it will continue in the same manner until we reach our destination. We feel to say that the protecting hand of God has been with us. He has heard and answered our prayers, and we give him the praise and honor. We arrived at New York at 6 p.m. today all in good health and spirits and hope to get through our business here tomorrow. Will write a few lines from Norfolk if I can find time when I get there.
With kind regards to you and all at "42" [42 ISLINGTON WAS THE ADDRESS OF THE BRITISH MISSION IN LIVERPOOL]. I remain your humble servant and co-laborer in Christ,
J. Ostlund. [p.572]
