. . .very well had some good songs and dancing on board and plenty of music.

Sunday, 28--had a good meeting. Had a good discourse from C. [Charles] Penrose and M. [Milo] Andrus in the afternoon and a sacrament meeting in the morning. Monday. Tuesday.

May 1, Wednesday--very rough and I was very sick in bed all day. The Saints were carried on deck those that could not walk up and were lying on deck in blankets with their sun hats before them.

May 2--Very rough. Betsy James Bessy were stay at the bow of the vessel when once she came and Book of James Shanter into the water and it went back bound for Liverpool if it did not stop on the road and as soon as that was gone over came the spray and drenched them both. Poor James Bar headed Betsy had to go down change all her things.

May 3--very fine. It was a dead calm.

4--very rough in the evening. Remained below. Had some good songs. Harriet and I went on deck after meeting and watched the water and the waves rolling very high and the people slipping about from one side of the ship to the other. We are allowed to remain on deck till ten.

Sunday, May 5--Sacrament meeting 1/2 past 9. Fellowship meeting. Lots bore their testimony. In the afternoon had a good meeting on deck, enjoyed ourselves first rate.

Monday 6--very rough. Betsy Fanny stayed in bed all day. Harriet, I and James went on deck and got wet through with the spray. It really is good fun to see the people rolling about in every direction getting wet through. You know I always laugh at mischief.

Tuesday 7--Fine. James sick for the first time. Not seasickness.

Wednesday 8--Nice, fine day.

Thursday 9--Very foggy.

Friday and Saturday 10,11--Very foggy.

Sunday 12, Very rough and wet. Held the meeting below.

Monday 13--Wet. Very rough.

Tuesday 14--very rough. Retired to bed early.

Wednesday 15--fine. Cold

Thursday 16--calm. A fine concert held on board. Week is the 2nd.

Friday 17--very rough.

Sat. 18--fine. Enjoyed ourselves after meeting with songs. It was a lovely evening. The moon was so bright

Sunday 19--very calm. Held a meeting on deck at 3 o'clock. Some good advice about landing. Enjoyed ourselves very much in the evening. A wedding of Brother Andrez [Milo Andrus].

Monday 20--very rough.

Tuesday 21--very calm. Pilot came on board and land just in sight. We were permitted to stay on deck as long as we wished. Went down about 12.

Wednesday 22--very fine. Were all called on deck between 3 and 4 to pass the doctor . Land in sight. We were very glad to see it not having seen anything but sky and water for a month. Then went ashore in a steamboat for Castle Garden. Slept that one night.

23--started early. A little way up the river so the station had our luggage weighed and started about 10 o'clock for Dunkirk reached there. --(25)--then changed car for Cleveland. Reached there on 26th.

26--then changed car for Feacrs [UNCLEAR] reached there in the evening. Changed cars for Chicago reached there--27--Changed car for Quincy. Reached there—

May 28--Slept in the cars all night.

May 29--Started by steamboat for Hannibal on the Mississippi River. Landed went on rail again for St. Joseph reached—

30--then sailed for Florence by steamboat on the Missouri River. Reached Florence.

Sunday, June 2--Our luggage was conveyed to a empty house where we stayed until we started for the plains. . . . [p. 496]
