New York, April 28, 1887.Dear George Teasdale:
Dear Brother-According to promise we drop you a line giving a synopsis of our journey. Upon leaving Queenstown we all became seasick, and continued in that condition, with the exception of Brothers N. Anderson and A.P. Eliason, who seemed quite fortunate and were able to render valuable assistance in caring for the Saints. Sister Hildigar, from Stockholm, was also quite a valuable aid in caring for those of her sex. The doctor became quite alarmed because so many were sick and unable to be up; but by the blessings of God and the labors of those who could assist, we soon had quite a change. There was one death, an infant about three months' old, but not of our company.
On the 19th all had to be vaccinated by the doctor, who had not previously been. We were all able to pass quarantine on the 27th, at 6:30 p.m. After which the customs officers came on board and took statements as to our having any dutiable goods, our destination, etc. Landed at Guion Dock at 7:30 p.m.
We were met by Brother James E. Hart, and others at 9 p.m.; and on the morning of the 28th our company's luggage was examined by the officers and, at 12 noon, we left for Castle Garden, where all passed.
At 3:30 p.m., we started per S. S. "Roanoke," Old Dominion Line, for Norfolk, and have thus far been kindly treated by all.
April 29th. All are well this morning, except Brother Morgan, who is suffering some with inflamation of the kidneys. We expect to land at Norfolk at 1 p.m. Our company will all travel together to Kansas City; from there, all going north of Ogden and South of Spanish Fork, will go in care of A.P. Eliason, via Union Pacific Railway.
The Guion Company's employees all treated us with much kindness and make us as comfortable they could.
We all feel the Lord has blessed us thus far on our journey. All the brethren wish to be remembered to you all at "42." [42 ISLINGTON IS THE ADDRESS OF THE ENGLISH MISSION]
