Queenstown, Oct. 25, 1885.Elder George Osmond.
Dear Brother,--So far so good. A little rough the early part of last evening, which made many qualmish and upset a few, but the major part of the steerage, intermediate and cabin passengers came to the front this morning, and partook of the 8:30 repast, your humble servant among the number. How long this state of things will last is at present beyond my ken, but we are all hoping for the best.
We organized last evening, with Elders [Edward] Morgan, [George J.] Dent and [James] McPherson in charge of the English, F. [Frederick] Christianson, H. D. Petersen and James Olsen, of the Scandinavian, and J. H. Boshard [J. R. Bosshard] of the German Saints. Instructions were afterwards given by President [Anthon H.] Lund and his assistants, and an excellent spirit prevailed among all present. Rules and regulations for the voyage were presented and unanimously accepted. A few irregularities took place in the berthing, which have been satisfactorily arranged , and at present all seem to be working good shape.
The officers of the steamship Nevada are courteous and obliging, everything appears clean and tidy, the accommodation all we could ask for, and a general good feeling pervades the breasts of all.
Since breakfast the weather has changed; it is quite stormy now, still the sea is smooth. Our good boat has been running very steadily this morning, which accounts for our comfortable feeling; still it has been necessary to apply the remedial antidote in some cases. Sister [Louisa F.] Wells was rather poorly during the night, but is much better now.
With kindest regards to President Wells, yourself, and all at "42," [THE LIVERPOOL MISSION ADDRESS WAS 42 Islington] together with the Saints of the Liverpool Branch, I subscribe myself your brother and fellow-laborer in the cause of Christ,
C. J. Arthur. [p.698]
