Elder Henry Leyland, writing from on board the Nevada, off Queenstown, on the 30th ultimate, says:
"After bidding you all goodbye and getting under sail at 4:30 p.m. on the 29th, the following organization took place: P. F. Goss was elected president of the company, with H. [Hyrum] H. Evans as secretary and H. [Henry] Leyland as assistant secretary; also H. [Hyrum] H. Evans to take charge of the British Saints, H. [Hans] A. Hanson [Hansen] the Scandinavian, and J. [John] Lederman [Ledermann] the Swiss and German. Each company has its local organization as well, with chaplain, captain of the guard, captain of the baggage, etc. General prayers will be held at 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. The company seem pretty well and cheerful, with the exception of a few who begin to be a little seasick. The pilot left us at 11 o'clock a.m. today." [p.588]
